Yesterday we had our second Genius Hour. We did the shark thing when people share what they plan to do. I'm still not sure what I want to do yet. I have to decide soon because we will be done with shark week by next Wednesday when we have Genius Hour again. I'm still trying to think of ideas of what I should do. Senora told me that I should look up some ideas of what I should do for Genius Hour.  She also showed me a list of ideas for genius hour also. I hope I find something to do soon so I don't have to do another post like this.

Genius hour #2

This genius hour, Harsha and I made a lot of progress on one of our 1x1x1 cubes and our fidget spinner cube. We started working on the fidget spinner cube, and in the first 5 seconds, we had to totally change our plan. We needed to make it a 1x3x3, which means we would take out 2 layers. We have sanded the pieces down so a cap fits on, and it should fit well. We need to do a bit more sanding, but that's it. On the 1x1x1, we have covered it in epoxy, let it dry, and now we need to paint it black. The stickers should be here soon, so we can cover it and sand the epoxy on the corners. That is what we did last genius hour.
Last week we did genius hour. I'm not sure what I am going to do yet. I talked with senora about it. We talked about soccer, reading, and writing. I think genius hour is a great idea.  I hope I come up with something soon. I might write story. That's all I have.
Last Genius hour, we filled out a sheet about ourselves, and our hobbies. I wrote things about singing, reading, writing, and soccer. But I could not really think of anything to make. I thought about    all of the things that I love to do, and things I enjoy, But  I still couldn't think of anything to make. Some of my ideas were, writing a short story, trying a new skill in soccer, and trying a new style of  singing. I still can't decide what to do, but I will think hard, until I come up with an interesting, challenging, and fun thing to do/make.

Genius Hour 1

During genius hour on Wednesday we worked on developing an idea for a project. We had to find something that we are passionate about so that it would be easy and fun for us to complete the task at hand. The class filled out a Passion sheet that we could fill out to dig deeper into our passions, hobbies and thoughts. The passion sheet helped me to separate and make my thoughts clear, but it didn’t really help me form any ideas. I am still not positive on what subject is going to be my main topic in my Mindful Genius Project. Some ideas that I have grouped from my passions sheet are maybe studying something about the history of soccer, the history of math, or maybe something about how tennis came to be. I found that my main topic and hobby on my passions sheet is horses, but I’ve decided to exclude it because I have rode horses my whole life and don’t have any questions. I hope that I will be able to choose a topic to do my project on that is not only creative, but also someth...

Day 1

For the first genius hour I brainstormed about what I wanted to do, I considered learning more about diabetes or mental illnesses or writing and publishing processes. Nothing really struck me as the one thing I should do, and I couldn't really think of any projects that could go along with those topics. Not really coming up with anything, I listened to some of the suggestions Sra. Conroy had. She mentioned writing a book, and, as I love writing, decided to settle with that. I'm writing a pretty short book called Zorro and Baby Bun, who are two characters I created for Deena, I draw them often, but never wrote any story lines for them, so when this idea came by, I entertained it easily and quickly, and have settled with that

Lil'T

I  started brainstorming for my Lil'T book. I started drawing tiny pictures to put in it and I started writing it out.

genius hour #1 blog from camey

Last week during Genius Hour, I brainstormed about what I wanted to do for my project. I decided to do something using computers. I chose to do something using computers because it is the only thing I'm good at. I wanted to either make a video game or a website. I thought very hard about these two options. I then decided that I was going to make a guide on how to build a computer. I will take apart my computer and put it back together. While I am doing this, I will take pictures that will help guide the reader to make their own.
This past week during Genius Hour, I decided I wanted to use one of my favorite sports as the main focus of my project. I am talking about baseball. I want to learn about the history of baseball, how it was first invented, and if they were any previous games from the past that inspired baseball. I am not exactly sure how I want to present this material. I might want to present this in a more traditional school kind of way. Like a slideshow or something, since I have no idea what to make or do on something about baseball.
Hi Everyone, Fashion and makeup are two of my biggest passions. One of my biggest fashion inspirations is   全力少女R (AKA FULL POWER GIRLS R). They always wear the best outfits, they also have good music! I don't think you can put pictures on here, so I can't show you.  Kanon is currently the youngest member, she's 15 years old (14 years old when she joined Full Power Girls R). I love the chokers that she wears. They are so chic! All of them wear stylish chokers, but hers are amazing. I love wearing chokers, I have about nine of them!  T hey always seem to wear cute outfits, even when they are not on stage. I personally think they're a really cool group. They definitely inspire me (I know I already said that). My current favorite song by them is probably "Parallel Girl" ( パラレルガール)  if anyone was wondering . It's a good song, and I LOVE the outfits that they where in the music video. Again, so chic! As you can see, I am really passionate...

Ben-Genius Hour of 8/23/17

Last Wednesday during genius hour, I brainstormed some ideas, until eventually coming up with my current one. I decided that over the course of this genius hour period that I was going to use Scratch or another program to create a multi-level video game.  During the rest of the period I played with some of the commands on scratch and tried to figure out how some of it works. I also thought of ideas about what different levels could look like. Some ideas I came up with are: An enemy chasing you through somewhat of a maze, an enemy moving randomly around the arena and cloning itself every few seconds for increasing difficulty, and a multiple choice quiz level. One of the main difficulties will be getting it to change levels, or automatically restart the current level if you fail. The only thing that kind of disappointed me was that WASD, the most common keyboard layout for video games doesn't work well on scratch.   After last week I feel pretty comfo...

Genius Hour Conroy elective

In genius hour we had to make a passions map. to make it we filled out and answered questions about things we liked. the purpose of the passions map was to help us brainstorm and come up with ideas for our genius hour project. i decided to make amino ball. I decided to make a mini ball because it is less expensive and not as hard to make as a regular ball. a mini ball is basically a soccer ball but a lot smaller and with less complicated stitchings. A regular soccer ball would be a lot more money to make and regular soccer balls usually have very complex stitching patterns. I thought genius hour was very fun and i would love to do it again.

Genius Hour - Evan Bartek

Last Wednesday, for genius hour, I brainstormed what I should do for my project. I initially wanted to do something that I could do on my computer so I narrowed down my ideas to a couple. My first Idea was to create some kind of project with Python (a coding language), but then I realized that I could not download the idle platform that I am familiar with so I skipped over that idea. I filled out the brainstorming sheet further and then thought about doing something with music or making a video. preferring music, I brainstormed projects that relate to music and I came up with: creating a song from scratch, making a music video, or making a parody of an already existing song. I am already familiar with a music making software called LMMS but I do not know a lot of the basic usages of the software. But of course this program does not run on Chrome OS and I was planning to use LMMS for creating a song and making a parody. This left one option for ...

For Genius Hour last Wednesday, Harsha and I decided we should make mods for rubik's cubes

At the start of class last Wednesday, I had no clue what I was going to do. By the end, I had a partner & we both felt like we knew what we were going to do and how we were going to do it. I honestly think that Harsha and I are the farthest along in the class. First, we filled out our Passion sheet, and for one of the questions I had Rubik's cubes. I knew Harsha really likes Rubik's cubes, so I asked Senora if we could work together. She said yes, and we started deciding what mods for a Rubik's cube we would make. We decided on making a few 1x1x1s, a cutter and fisher cutter cube, a fidget spinner cube, and tbd. That is what we did last Wednesday.
For my Genius Hour I would like to research one food dish and find out about it and the history. I will also write a paper explaining the history and how to prepare the dish. In addition of writing a paper, I will also make a video on how to make the dish and tips on how to cook the dish. A dish I am considering to learn about is lasagna and if I have enough time I will try to bring in some for class. If I need help I will ask help from my sister who is very good at cooking. Every week I can research the dish. I can also research on how to make it. Hopefully I can also make a power point on the dish

Genius Hour with 8th graders at MVS!

Today was the first day we started our genius hour projects.  Many students had great ideas already of what they want to study and create.  Some were stuck.  "I'm passionate about myself," said one girl, not sure how that could translate into a project  One boy wondered if he could create a dish.  He meant food.  Two boys want to work together on a rubik's cube project.  The challenge was getting those who had an idea to start to think about what they would produce and how they would get there, and those who were fine not even opening their computers to think about what they could learn about.  Accountability will be key, for sure! So, to learn more about genius hour, I watched a webinar, and 20 minutes in it turns into a commercial for a course.  And not a free course, but one with a $30 discount IF YOU ACT RIGHT NOW and buy the course  So many blogs I have read lately have turned into ads for the TPT store.  It's aggravating. ...
